《盖世英雄方世玉》讲述了顽劣不羁的少年方世玉仗着一身铜皮铁骨，在广州素有小霸王之称。性格争强好胜，做事不计后果，但心地善良，有强烈的正义感，头脑灵活，搞笑风趣。其父方德为让方世玉修身养性，便将他送去了杭州的九逸会馆下属的一所义学去念书习武。在念书习武的过程中，方世玉认识了同来求学的洪熙官与胡惠乾，三个性格迥异的年轻人，从相互排斥最终成为挚友，并一起面对以雷老虎为首的恶势力。方世玉与洪熙官同窗之后，受收洪熙官影响，张扬的性格开始稍有收敛，行事也变得沉稳起来。继而却因为擂台上误杀雷老虎，性格再次发生变化，其间还经历了与雷老虎义女雷无双朦胧的爱情。经过了一系列的风波，最终，方世玉从一个懵懂莽撞的少年逐渐成长为了名震一时的盖世小英雄。
